General Requirements for a Turkish Visa
Visa Application and Process
A visa allows foreigners to stay in Turkey for up to 90 days or transit through the country. According to the Law on Foreigners and International Protection (YUKK), Article 11, visa applications must be processed in coordination with the Directorate General of Migration Management of the Ministry of Interior. Consulates forward the visa applications to the Directorate General, which completes the necessary assessments and informs the consulate of the result.
Visa Validity and Duration
The law also allows for direct visa issuance to certain foreigners under specific circumstances. Foreigners must apply for a visa at the consular offices of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visa can be obtained from Turkish consulates in the applicant's country of citizenship or legal residence.
Visa Waiver and Exceptions
If there is a unilateral or mutual visa exemption agreement between the two states, a visa is not required. The maximum stay permitted by a visa or visa exemption cannot exceed 90 days within any 180-day period. Visas are issued for a maximum period of ten years and must be used within six months of issuance; otherwise, they become invalid.
